Notice of SOC Revision for 2018 Published

The Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) 2018 revision process is underway! The Federal Register notice has now been published requesting public comment on the proposed revision to the 2010 SOC Classification Principles; proposals for changes or corrections to existing 2010 SOC detailed occupations; and proposals for new detailed occupations. This review and possible revision of the 2010 SOC is intended to be completed by the end of 2016, and then released to begin use in 2018.

NCES proposed a number of changes that would help better align the SOC with postsecondary education, particularly in the areas of academic and student affairs. Please consider submitting your own suggestions for how the SOC can be improved and updated to better reflect occupations at postsecondary institutions.

The deadline for submitting comments to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is July 21, 2014. For additional information, please visit the Federal Register posting at: https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2014/05/22/2014-11913/standard-occupational-classification-soc-revision-for-2018-notice. Additional information about the 2010 SOC System and the 2018 revision process is also available by visiting the 2010 SOC Home Page (http://www.bls.gov/soc/) and the IPEDS Human Resources/SOC Information Center: http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/Section/resources_soc

AIR Seeks IPEDS Trainers

The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) seeks experienced IPEDS Keyholders, coordinators, and data users to assist in developing and delivering IPEDS training. Through a contract with RTI, funded by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), AIR delivers face-to-face national workshops, provides online courses and tutorials, and creates additional training materials for IPEDS survey components and data tools. To accomplish these tasks, AIR recruits experienced IPEDS users to develop and deliver a curriculum that takes a broad view of IPEDS to assure the quality of data submission and improve the skills of individuals using these data. Visit the AIR website to read more about this opportunity: http://www.airweb.org/EducationAndEvents/IPEDSTraining/Pages/IPEDSTrainers.aspx
The application deadline is June 27, 2014.
