Reminder: Comment Deadline for SOC 2018 is July 21

The deadline for submitting comments regarding the proposed SOC 2018 revision is July 21, 2014.

As noted previously (http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/InsidePages/TWII?date=2014-June-17&id=113), the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) 2018 revision process is underway. The Federal Register notice has now been published requesting public comment on the proposed revision of the 2010 SOC Classification Principles; the correction, change, or combination of selected 2010 SOC detailed occupations; and inclusion of new detailed occupations. The review and possible revision of the 2010 SOC is intended to be completed by the end of 2016, and then released to begin use in 2018.

NCES proposed a number of changes that would help better align the SOC with postsecondary education, particularly in the areas of academic and student affairs. Please consider making suggestions about how the SOC can be improved and updated to better reflect occupations at postsecondary institutions.
