Outcome Measures (OM) Online Tutorials and Import Layout Specifications

As NCES prepares to open the Winter and Spring IPEDS collections next month, this is another opportunity to call your attention to the preparation required to report outcomes for your 2007 incoming cohorts in the new Winter survey component, Outcome Measures (OM).

In addition to the FAQs, instructions, and IPEDS Help Desk, there are new resources to assist with your OM reporting. The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) recently released three NCES approved online tutorials. You do not have to be an AIR member to view the free tutorials. The OM tutorials offer a quick overview, who to include (and exclude) in OM reporting, and the differences between various IPEDS success measures collected in Completions, Graduation Rates, and OM. AIR also released a brief OM article in its recent e-AIR newsletter. Links to the above-mentioned resources are as follows:

New Pension Screen in GASB Finance Survey

GASB Statement 68 “Accounting and Financial Reporting for Pensions – an Amendment to GASB Statement No. 27” changed how public institutions recognize unfunded pension liabilities and related deferred resources and expenses in their financial statements and is expected to cause significant shifts in the data reported to IPEDS. In response to the implementation of GASB Statement 68, which was effective for fiscal year 2015, NCES has added a new screening question and four new fields collecting additional information on unfunded pension liabilities to the IPEDS Finance form for public GASB institutions. The changes have been reflected in the most current versions of survey materials, which is available for review at https://surveys.nces.ed.gov/ipeds/VisIndex.aspx.
