This Week In IPEDS (TWII)
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is pleased to announce the following two updates regarding IPEDS data and data tools. Detailed information is provided below.
- Custom Data Feedback Reports are now available using the Executive Peer Tool (ExPT)
- The Peer Analysis System (PAS) has been updated with Spring 2008 data and includes new geographical variables
Custom Data Feedback Reports are now available using the Executive Peer Tool (ExPT)
A new feature is now available with the Executive Peer Tool (ExPT), located at: http://nces.ed.gov/ipedspas/ExPT/. The ExPT is a data tool designed to complement the Data Feedback Report (DFR) which is sent each October to the chief executive officers at most IPEDS-participating institutions.
Based on the suggestion of a Technical Review Panel, a utility has been added to the ExPT which allows the production of a .pdf file using any desired custom comparison group. Prior to the addition of this feature, only one .pdf version of the Data Feedback Report was available on the ExPT (a duplicate of the DFR sent to each chief executive). The new utility allows users to modify the comparison group, and the desired data figures, and then create a new custom .pdf Data Feedback Report complete with introductory letter and methodological notes. Because many institutions use multiple comparison groups for different purposes, the ability to customize and replicate the DFR for multiple uses is anticipated to increase flexibility and usefulness of the DFR and ExPT.
The Peer Analysis System (PAS) has been updated with Spring 2008 data and includes new geographical variables
Recent updates have been made to data available within the IPEDS data dissemination tools. The Institution level of the Peer Analysis System (PAS) and Dataset Cutting Tool (DCT), located at http://nces.ed.gov/ipedspas/, now includes all data collected during the Spring 2008 collection (EF, SFA, GRS and Finance).
Additionally, new variables have been created and added to the “Directory Information” file (located within the Institutional Characteristics variable list) that will allow users to create comparison groups based on Metropolitan Statistical Areas. These variables are as follows: a) Core Based Statistical Area (CBSA), b) CBSA Type Metropolitan or Micropolitan, c) Combined Statistical Area (CSA), and d) New England City and Town Area (NECTA). For more information on the above variables, see http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/inforeg/statpolicy.html#ms
