Opting Out of Receiving Reminders

By popular demand, NCES has added an option to permit eligible Keyholders to “Opt-Out” of scheduled reminders. During each IPEDS collection period, Keyholders currently receive up to three reminder emails, and a phone call, if data have not been entered and/or locked by certain dates during the collection period, as indicated below:

  • 4 weeks prior to deadline: email reminder if no surveys have been started
  • 2 weeks prior to deadline: email reminder if all surveys are not yet locked
  • 2 weeks prior to deadline: phone call to CEO if no surveys have been started
  • 1 week prior to deadline: email reminder if all surveys are not yet locked

Keyholders may now “Opt-Out” of receiving all of these reminders with the exception of the “1 week prior to deadline” reminder email. To participate in “Opt-Out” opportunity, login to the collection system, go to the Tools menu and select “Follow-up Opt Out”. After reading the instructions, choose the radio button as appropriate. This action must be repeated for EACH collection period, if the Keyholder chooses to continue opting-out. Note that all IPEDS compliance requirements still apply, and institutions will not be granted extensions for failure to meet the reporting deadline.

Federal Register Notice and Comment Period for IPEDS 2008-09 HEOA Revisions

As noted in a previous announcement (http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/InsidePages/TrainingAnnouncements?date=2008-August-22&id=956), IPEDS must implement several revisions to the current 2008-09 data collection year due to requirements in the HEOA legislation. See the Federal Register notice for instructions on submitting comments on the changes; these comments are due on or before Nov. 24, 2008.
