AIR Releases Updated – and Improved – Fall Webinars and IPEDS Training Page:
The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) has recently updated their AIR IPEDS resource page http://www.airweb.org/?page=819. Please share this link with anyone who may be interested. New features include an improved page layout, Webinars offering the ability to navigate through chapters, and three different Webinar viewing options (Flash, Quick Time, or Windows Media). Also included with each updated Webinar are downloadable PDF files of the slides, a handout of the slides, and a text copy of the narration to use as reference.
Currently, the Webinars for the Institutional Characteristics (2 versions) and the 12-Month Enrollment components are available for use, and the Completions survey component will be available soon.
Comments on Proposed Changes to CIP Due by October 1:
You may recall that in February 2008, NCES contacted IPEDS users to request input on changes to the CIP. After several months of careful review and consideration, NCES has developed a list of recommendations for updates to the CIP. To view this list of changes, log into the IPEDS Data Collection System, go to the Help menu, and click on the CIP review link. This will take you to a PDF document that includes proposed changes organized by two-digit CIP series. For ease of navigation, the document contains bookmarks, which direct you to a specific two-digit series. Any changes adopted will be available for use in the Fall 2010 IPEDS collection, for reporting program completions from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.
Please send any comments on the proposed changes to CIP@ed.gov by October 1, 2008.
OMB Approves HEOA-Related Changes to Fall and Winter Collections:
On August 26, 2008, OMB issued a Notice of Action approving the following previously announced changes to the Fall and Winter Collection that were necessary due to the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA):
- Check box item on IC related to tuition plans
- Items to the EF component to allow for the calculation of a Fall 2008 student-to-faculty ratio for programs with undergraduates
- Change to instructions regarding the institution’s website
- Clarification of instructions for SFA related to Federal Work Study
OMB has not yet approved proposed changes to the Spring collection that are required due to passage of HEOA; however, you should anticipate that they will be approved and plan accordingly. For a full description of all the HEOA required changes, see the original announcement at http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/InsidePages/TrainingAnnouncements?date=2008-August-22&id=956.
