This Week In IPEDS (TWII)

Previous date April 29,2002 Next date

There are only 9 days remaining in the Spring 2002 Collection. The collection will close at midnight (EDT) on May 8, 2002.

Our thanks go out to the keyholders of the approximately 3300 Title-IV institutions that have begun submitting data. Those institutions that have NOT yet begun data entry are STRONGLY encouraged to do so at this time. The data collection is located at http://surveys.nces.ed.gov/ipeds. The system accepts the same IDs and passwords used during the Winter collection.

The Help Desk will now be operating extended hours, as follows:

Monday, April 29 through Thursday, May 2: 8:30am - 8:00pm EDT
Friday, May 3: 8:30am - 6:00pm EDT
Monday, May 6 through Tuesday, May 7: 8:30am - 8:00pm EDT
Wednesday, May 8: 8:30am - 10:00pm EDT

Please remember: The NCES servers which house the Spring 2002 data collection will be out of service over several weekends due to renovations that are being made to the power transformers which feed the Department's data center. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. The dates and times for each shut down are as follows:
May 3 (6:00pm) through May 5 (5:00pm- recently revised from 12:00pm)
May 10 (6:00pm) through May 12 (12:00pm)

The completion of IPEDS survey is mandated by 20 U.S.C. 1094(a17). A list of the Title IV eligible institutions that do not respond to the 2001-02 IPEDS surveys will be provided to the Office of Student Financial Aid, Case Management and Oversight at the completion of the Spring processing. This week, the Help Desk will begin contacting locking keyholders and/or CEOs of Title IV institutions that have not yet started entering data.

The Spring collection includes Enrollment, Student Financial Aid, Graduation Rates, and Finance components. If Enrollment data were submitted during the Fall 2001 collection, keyholders will need to run edits and lock the data during the Spring 2002 collection period. Facsimile forms for the Spring collection are available under the Reports menu. Users may also view and/or print their Winter data from the Spring data collection site. To access the Winter data, go to Reports and choose Winter 2001 (data). Most data have been migrated to the PEER tool and may be accessed at the Collection level by users possessing a current ID and password.

Other notes of interest:

  • To review data submitted during either the Spring 2001 or Fall 2001 collection, you can access the following site: http://165.224.221.222/fall2001/Welcome.asp. Log in with your current ID and password; go to TOOLS, choose Select SurveyID, choose either collection and click on select. This will provide you access to your Spring or Fall 2001 survey screens and allow you to view and/or print your submission.
  • Implementation of the new racial/ethnic categories for reporting aggregate data appears to be at a standstill again. Any new information about the implementation will be posted as soon as we have it.
  • The forthcoming revision of the CIP Codes, CIP 2000, will be used beginning with the 2003-04 Completions Survey and the Fall 2004 Enrollment Survey.
  • Beginning in Spring 2003, Public institutions that have implemented the new GASB 34/35 reporting standards will have a new format for reporting Finance data. This will be OPTIONAL the first year and the proposed collection instrument will be posted to our website within the next month for comment.
