This Week In IPEDS (TWII)
Compliance with Title IV reporting requirements
The office of Federal Student Aid has recently issued fine notices to 80+ institutions for not completing one or more of the 2002-03 IPEDS surveys. In addition, warning notices were sent to about 360 institutions that did not complete one or more of the required 2002-03 IPEDS surveys. According to FSA, an institution’s failure to complete and submit all surveys is a serious violation of its obligations under the HEA.
- You may check the status of your 2002-03 surveys by accessing the Fall 2002, Winter 02-03, and Spring 2003 collection sites (links are provided from http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/webbase.asp; use last year’s UserID and password to access these sites) - see the “Surveys” page.
- Several institutions were inadvertently reported to FSA as “nonrespondents” when, in fact, their data were reported by a “parent” institution. ALL instances of combined reporting must be conveyed to the Help Desk so that the collection system properly reflects this information. The survey status screen indicates all known instances of combined reporting.
- Schools that do not respond to one or more of the required 2003-04 surveys will again be referred to FSA for appropriate action.
Email Viruses
Recent outbreaks of email viruses may have resulted in "phony" messages being sent to IPEDS users from ipedshelp@rti.org. <mailto:ipedshelp@rti.org.> Please note that we do not send attachments, and you should not open any attachments purported to be from this email address. In general, it is always a good idea to be assured that attachments are legitimate before you open them, as viruses are typically contained in an attachment, and opening the attachment can cause your computer to become infected. It is also advised that all IPEDS users maintain some degree of protection from electronic viruses.
