This Week In IPEDS (TWII)

Previous date December 19,2013

Update on 2013 Data Feedback Reports

The 2013 Data Feedback Reports (DFR) will be released later than anticipated. The current anticipated schedule for release is as follows: DFRs will be emailed to keyholders during the second week in January 2014, sent in hardcopy to institutional CEOs two weeks following the email, and released in the IPEDS Data Center after the provisional release of the Spring 2013 IPEDS data.

Update to the GASB Finance Form

Institutions reporting to IPEDS using GASB standards (most public institutions) will see some minor changes to the finance survey component in the current collection year. As a result of GASB Statement 63, the form and instructions have been updated to reflect revised language (for example, Net Position replaces the previously used Net Assets). Glossary terms have also been updated to be consistent with the change in GASB guidelines.

All Revised 2011 Data Now Available

In early December, NCES released the final (revised) data for all remaining IPEDS components for the 2011-12 collection year, including Human Resources 2011, Fall Enrollment 2011, Graduation Rates 2011, and Finance 2010-11. When accessing the data for these components through the IPEDS Data Center (http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/datacenter), the default choice for access is now final release. Both final release and provisional release data are included in the zip file when using the download survey data file function.

Request for Information (RFI) Published

A RFI was published on 12/17/2013. To assist the Department of Education (Department) in its efforts to develop a Postsecondary Institution Ratings System (PIRS), the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) invites the submission of information about data elements, metrics, methods of data collection, methods of weighting or scoring, and presentation frameworks for a PIRS for assessing the performance of institutions of higher education (IHEs) and advancing institutional accountability while also enhancing consumer access to useful information.
