Reminders Concerning the Complete, Timely, and Accurate Reporting of IPEDS Data
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reminds Title-IV institutions about the importance of timely, accurate, and complete reporting for IPEDS. Recent institutional reports by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) have emphasized the need for IPEDS data to be subject to adequate checks by the reporting institution, to be verifiable, and otherwise meeting the requirement to be satisfactory to the Secretary. Best practices may include but are not limited to: designing, documenting, and implementing procedures for collecting, consolidating, assessing the reliability of, and reporting data to IPEDS. It is recommended that these be formalized into standard operating procedures (SOPs), or the equivalent.
IPEDS data submission requirements fall under several regulations, including Section 487(a)(17) of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA), Title 34 of the Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.) section 668.16, and others.
