OMB requests comments on the proposed 2020 Update to the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP)

Please note that a Federal Register Notice (FRN) was recently published and NCES is requesting comments on proposed changes to the 2020 Update to the proposed Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP). The CIP was originally developed in 1980 by the NCES within the Department, with revisions occurring in 1985, 1990, 2000, and 2010. The 2020 edition of the CIP (CIP 2020) is the fifth revision of the CIP and presents an updated taxonomy of instructional program classifications and descriptions. NCES tentatively plans to use CIP 2020 during the 2020-21 IPEDS collection year.

The FRN has a 60-day comment period, closing on Feb 25, 2019.

To view the FRN and to provide comments on the Federal Register Notice, please see:https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=ED-2018-IES-0126-0002 and submit comments at https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=ED-2018-IES-0126.

If you have any questions regarding the public comment period for the CIP 2020, please send them to CIP2020@ed.gov
